This is the play; whichever company that wants to be exempt from the tariffs is to kiss his ass and pay him off. It's a mob-boss style shake down. Trump wants to get paid.
That guy from Cleveland steel who just bought Stelco is probably really pissed off. He’s contractually obligated for five years to keep that plant operating.
Here’s what Canada should do - stop all shipments until all tariffs are removed. Let’s sell our created surplus (discounted) to other Countries! Let’s see how long the US survives. US has a supply issue not Canada
In addition to import tariffs on US goods they could implement export tariffs on things like oil and lumber and other raw materials, iron ore, nickel, etc
All tariffs are dumb even retaliatory ones. Smartest move IMHO Canada could make is to start selling some of its $330B worth of US securities (Canada is the 5th largest holder of US debt). Take as much money out of the US treasury in the quickest amount of time they can, sell, sell, sell.
What about the rest of the country? Farmers, truckers, alcohol refineries, car or clothing manufacturers. How are other entities in the network of the US supposed to afford to buy aluminum if the rest of their materials are exorbitant. It’d be more effective if they worked with their whole systems.
