Not a big fan of these two-way bikepaths. Bikes coming from boths sides increases the risk of a driver not seeing a cyclist when crossing.

Separate lanes on both sides are safer.

In cities where people are used to it its less of a problem. With the advantage that you have to cross big streets way less often as a cyclist 😎

It's given me an idea for when Mill Road Bridge in Cambridge is closed. Raise the footpath so it's level across all side road junctions making it obvious to drivers that they have to give pedestrians priority.

Amazing. They’re introducing this in Cambridge, piecemeal and with varying levels of success. The concept of drivers giving way to cyclists and pedestrians seems extremely difficult for many. Implementing infrastructure is one thing, teaching people how best to use it is another.

This is one of the two main routes for cyclists between the city centre/main train station and the University.

By relocating the parking areas, the main route for cars was moved away from here to the Schoemakerstraat (which *also* has separate bike lanes).

Ah, so it is possible to do safely with many side roads. My city has newly installed some continous sidewalks and bike paths but there is only about 0.5-1.5m of width between the road and continous crossing.

I assume this would ideally be 3-5m in width to allow a vehicle to go up the hump and get out of the way of through traffic.

I often thought that those side roads along the arterial would need to be closed to automobiles but allow emergency vehicles to still access the arterial road to make it safer.
