Also I want folks who have ever complained about adoption apps/home visits to realize: this is why rescue orgs get so invasive--an accident, sure, but NO ONE NOTICED until the next day.

When you've dealt with every horror story imaginable, and now you have these animals you are responsible for and have to make a decision about who to send them home to? That is a massive responsibility. Every decision weighs on you. You blame yourself if anything happens.

I never actually did home visits, but on the app we asked if they consented to one because it was a red flag if they didn't, but one of my predecessors did. If a previous cat ever got out, we asked about that precautions taken to ensure it didn't happen again.

We asked about previous/current pets. We got consent to consult with their veterinarian regarding pet history (oh boy, the horror stories I could tell you there). I *was* invasive because I had to live with myself if I trusted this animal to someone and then it came to any kind of harm.

So please extend grace if adoption forms for pets seem excessive. Rescue orgs have seen so much horror. If there's something on the form they're asking about, guaranteed it's there because they previously dealt with something terrible that now requires them to consider it.

Just read about it on the bird site incl the comments (I'm upset now, not gonna get anymore upset, I figured) and this was negligence--they knew the screen wasn't secure that night and still left the window open, allowing the kitten to have access to the room. So yeah. Worst nightmare for an org.
