It is factually false that recording trans people just as their birth sex is "for their own good". It is simply medically dangerous to do so. When he says this is about patient safety he is lying, this is about enforcing anti-trans ideologies

As a clinician I find the report misleading. I agree results from trans people can sometimes be difficult to interpret depending on various factors, so more positive research should be done. However the report appears to be more about hurting/outing than helping trans people.

There are also markers already on the NHS vision system etc used by clinicians to determine tests or screening that may be required without birth sex marker. It just takes due diligence from the clinician.

There are times when I've had to guess that a patient is trans because their lab results are discordant with their recorded sex. It would be useful to have that information. Even so, many lab systems are very old and don't have space to record gender identity or cis/trans status.

Obviously hormone assays when we'e not been told the patient is trans. But other analytes can change depending on gender status, particularly
with hormone therapy. Annals of Clinical Biochemistry has some recent papers on how the biochemistry community is trying to improve care for trans people.

To be clear, I'm not advocating for Streeting's position. I'm saying that a full clinical and gender history would be useful and that systems currently in use do not always allow us to access or record that information.
