I hate the term "gender affirming care". I'm not getting surgery or whatever because I feel the need to be "affirmed", it's to address dysphoria. I get "affirmation" from my friends, family, colleagues etc because they're nice, normal people. But also because it gives room for this kind of bs

One thing I always roll my eyes at is when people will say things like "No one tell Elon Musk that his hairplugs are also a form of 'gender-affirming care.' Checkmate!" I see something like this in the replies to any post about attempts to take healthcare away from trans people and I don't get it.

Gender harmonization...
And i eas like... yeah... it is
You're absolutely right. "Gender-affirming care" exists for for me. It's when a medical professional addresses me (or refers to me) according to my gender, as relevant. Nothing else.
Am I totally wrong?
I like "trans healthcare" a lot.
Calling it "trans healthcare" would play into the all-to-prevalent idea that being trans is necessarily defined by receiving a certain kind of healthcare.
There are also people who do not consider themselves trans who receive such care (e.g., some non-binary folks).
Hmm
Plus the acronym for gender affirming care is GAC.
I kinda GAC at that.
Looking back I feel it was a mistake and that it would have been better to stick with Trans Healthcare as the main descriptor
