I've been saying this for a while. It will ban some forms of conversion therapy already covered by law (e.g. corrective r*pe) to make them more aggravated charges. However, its effect will be to legalise other forms of conversion therapy. As such, it will be a bill to embed conversion therapy.

And @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social and Labour have already confirmed this. There will be a carve out for most groups "helping to navigate a child's gender/sexuality", especially religious ones or schools or parents, and a big loophole to mandate it for NHS gender services.

Any Bill will have huge loopholes allowing conversion practises administered by the NHS.
I'm really concerned its primary function will be propaganda aimed at the LGBTQ+ community & a means for Labour to claim it can't possibly be happening any more. A smokescreen.

I think even a good conversion therapy ban (which this won't be) wouldn't allow for a legislator to be prosecuted under it. It would realistically have to be reserved for interpersonal conversion practices. The ban we'll get will have massive 'exploratory therapy' and parent/guardian carvouts.

Even if the part of Labour that aren't ideologically opposed to Trans people being treated equally in society force one through it won't be a conversion therapy ban that 1. isn't two tier and 2. isn't full of loopholes that allow conversion abuse practices to continue
