ICYMI - last night Congress passed a short term CR to keep the government open. Also in the CR—a pay raise.
This is interesting…
📌 Punchbowl News: Some key Dems were unaware of this language until after the final CR text was released. The provision wasn’t in an earlier draft…that was circulating.

Sorry but at that level of office- how could you not? You got aids to help you read bills
Did they sign the final draft??
Bring whoever did this up on ethics charges??
They are giving themselves an entitlement pay raise .
Time to start yearly evaluations by the citizens. They fail, they get no raise.
They apparently think pandemic planning is a waste, too. #publichealth
Yes, it's expensive to be in congress- But Their base pay doesn't include all of the $$$$ they get for

Fk NO!!!
Dictatorship before day one, it would seem.
But hands were tied: The People need more disaster aid.
They supported a coup to overthrow our government. They should have been expelled like in the Civil War.
I NEVER WAS ABLE TO GIVE MYSELF A RAISE!!
ALTHOUGH unlike these losers, I DESERVED IT
That’d get their attention.
Greedy vultures!
Large portion of the country only makes $7.25/hour. Tipped workers $2.13
We are mere rats in a cage to these politicians

Started BEFORE the repugs took power.
What does that tell you?
No? 🤣
Huh.
It's the older members who have old relationships to protect that end up blocking everything.
I do exclude Senators Warren and Sanders from that though. They are both passionate in their support and fight for the American people.
The reality is that our legislators are underpaid compared to the jobs they're qualified for outside of government, so we're asking them to take a hit. This only encourages a reliance on legal bribery in the form of donations.
As for the federal minimum wage, I'm all for raising
(1/)
We want to raise it up to a living wage, but the cost of living varies. That's why states have their own higher minimums, and some cities have even higher ones.
Ideally, a federal minimum wage should take these costs into account, but if it can't do (2/)
And, ultimately, the minimum matters less than the actual wages people are paid. Under Biden's economy, the people near the bottom benefited from full employment.
Of course, all (3/4)
THE AMERICAN PEOPLE HAVE FORGOTTEN THEY WORK FOR US !
LET’S SEE HOW MUCH THEY LIKE US TRYING TO BALANCE THE BUDGET WITH THEIR BENEFITS & SALARY .
Why should our taxes pay for this? And, the poor still suffer.
I wish I could inside trade, put my money in off shore accounts, receive paid contributions from lobbyists and skate on taxes with no retribution.
It’ll be good to remind voters (IF they care and stop blaming immigrants) of who voted themselves a pay raise.
There shouldn’t be a self appointed pay raise for Congress.
Let America vote on their raises like they vote on minimum wages for us. No company allows the workers to decide on their wages.
It sure wasn't based on a performance review!
To be clear, a raise was just given to the least productive Congress in history. 😒
If you don't do anything at your job but bitch and blame there's another employee that wants your job more than you!
Pay raises? No way!
Is it fear or laziness that keeps us submissive while the French are kicking ass?
would you agree to a pay freeze for 15 years ?
Would Unions agree to a 15 year pay freeze?
Also Congress: we want higher pay for ourselves.
We never hear that they “accidentally” signed off on a raise to the minimum wage. It’s always something that benefits only them despite numerous opportunities to sneak in a benefit for the entirety of the US.
They’re laughing at us!
Sure, now cut SS and Medicare.
