One thing I am quickly realizing is our society does not treat disabled people well enough. There’s no words to accurately describe the feeling of wanting to move a limb but it not responding.

I don’t tell people that I’m always in pain. I have nerve damage in my arm. My hand always feels like it’s burning/electrified/numb all at once and feels worse and moves up my arm the more I use my hand/arm. I don’t want the pitty and I don’t want to be coddled or treated with kid gloves.
When I was in an accident like 15 years ago I couldn't move my legs for the first couple days and when I was able to again they were so weak that I couldn't get to the bathroom 5ft away from my bed. It's a terrifying feeling
Recovery also sucks but at least it's a road back. I hope yours is smooth
I'm just some guy on the internet, but my mom had a massive stroke at 40 during my first semester of college. I've watched her work through so many accessibility hurdles in the 20 years since. Society has improved marginally in that time, but it's slow and frustrating. Wishing you the best!
As a physically disabled person whose job is caring for severely disabled people, I can confirm, it's a thing. Society will either treat you like trash, or use you as an inspirational story that they will then use to crap on other disabled people. It's a very "why can't you be like him" thing.
Yup. I do a bunch of accessibility testing for my day job. In an effort to learn more and do better, I've listened to a lot of disabled folks' perspectives. It's pretty rough out there. 😞

The medical system in this country needs a drastic change.
