I think more people are generally aware of Toy Story, but more people will know which precise aspect of Ratatouille is being referenced

Whereas a "Toy Story" situation could be the toys-coming-alive part, or the "feeling replaced by some new guy" part, or believing fiction is reality, and so on

I would say "a ratatouille situation" but neither one is something I would consider a situation. I don't often find myself wondering if someone's toys are sentient or whether someone is being controlled by a rat like a mecha

I think that I’d understand immediately what was meant by a “Ratatouille Situation” simply because it’s so specific and has been aped on in so much other media, while I wouldn’t immediately know what a “Toy Story Situation” meant.

I’d say Ratatouille or Monsters Inc.

There isn’t an overabundance of sequels to cause confusion (at least popular ones), neither is overly complicated or high(ish) concept (like Wall-E), MI has been around long enough and Ratatouille is simple enough in premise.
