Because the VAR, per the comms, saw / thought the contact was studs to ankle, which it just wasn't.

Surely that will get overturned on appeal. Surely.
Sometimes reds do get overturned, and if there is ever a time for one to be, it's that.
The bigger question is why the hell didn't VAR overturn it? If that's not a clear and obvious error, I don't know what can ever be.
