In case you ever wondered what the "Western Reserve" part of "Case Western Reserve" represented, it goes back to the tale of a magical place called Long Connecticut.

CWRU was actually two schools for a long time- Case Institute of Technology and Western Reserve (College/University) combined in the 1960s, like 140 years after WRU opened and 80 after Case opened.
As a person who works at CWRU, this is but half the story. CWRU is the result of 2 colleges that merged: Case Institute of Technology and Western Reserve College. The two schools settled in the same plot of land in CLE, due to gifts from industrialist Amassa Stone and were separate for nearly 80 yrs
The school today has a fairly generic mascot - Spartans with a perfectly ok color scheme - blue and gray, but the original mascots of the two schools were awesome: the Rough Riders and the Red Cats.

The school is known for its history in STEM. It is where the speed of light was measured and the atomic weight of oxygen was measured. It also was a leading institution when it came to promotion and being among the first to grant degrees to women and minorities.
The Charter of 1662 laid out Connecticut's land claim (what became the Western Reserve) all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Thus, UConn football to the Pac-12 makes geographic sense.
I love how they structured city blocks in the western reserve. Maybe it's because I grew up there, but the ratio of height to width, trees to house to land, feels perfect. And sidewalks and tree lawns.
If you're interested in Long CT, you should also look up the firelands. A large amount of land in Ohio just given to CT landowners because their land caught on fire in CT
Dude... I was referring to the high school in Collins, Ohio that is one of the two public schools by that school name in Ohio. I literally rode the bus for their school district. Public.
I’ve been a long time advocate for the “Make Cleveland Connecticut Again” movement. Unfortunately we can’t wear our hats anymore because of negative associations.
