I thought Substack was better than Twitter, and for the most part it is. However, even over there they have fundamentalists who come out in droves when they find something they can disagree with. Thanks Bluesky for so far not having tons of jerks. - ThreadSky

So, thanks to you I've just learned that Substack is a social media forum type thing (?) In my ignorance I thought it was just another kind of platform for bloggers, who like folk to subscribe to their content!

It’s a bit of both. I use it mainly to write blog posts / articles. But there are “notes” (think Tweets) that can be posted also.

Right... And people then start commenting/ discussing/ chatting/ disagreeing, just like on Twitter or indeed any sort of open forum where strangers type rather than speak...

Yup! And unfortunately someone got upset because they thought I was Roman Catholic and found out I wasn’t (I never claimed to be). They got a lot of people riled up for some reason 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well, you've shared pictures of the rosary and Our Lady, and you have a very monkish name, so it's an easy enough mistake to make! But nothing to get angry about - though of course, I'm not them, so don't know exactly what buttons you unwittingly pressed.

I’m not sure why it’s so hard for people (and all these were people who claimed the title of Christian) to not be jerks. It’d be far easier for them to just not interact. I hope here stays nicer. But I think it may be time to take a social media fast for a bit to remember that most people are good.
