Yep. As scientific studies reveal phylogeny, the taxonomy must follow, thus scientific names may change. Common names sometimes get changed too.

I’ve spent my whole life with the Louisiana heron only to learn recently that it’s now the tri-colored heron. I have some dozens of bird guides going back to the ‘40s. I guess this means I need a few updated editions, though whether or not I even bother using new names is a different question.
