A great alternative to MS Word is LibraOffice -- which I use. It works in very much the same way as Word, so no real learning curve. And, it's free, though they are happy to get donations. OpenOffice is another example. https://www.libreoffice.org/

Aside from cost, there are other advantages to things like Mint and LibraOffice (which comes with programs similar to Word, Excel and drawing programs). No ads or pressure to 'upgrade' to services you may not need. Better privacy. More control.

Great reminder that upgrading your hardware isn’t the only option! Many older computers still have plenty of life left with lightweight, free operating systems and open-source alternatives to Microsoft Office. Have you tried any specific OS from https://endof10.org that you’d recommend?
