This is a failure of the Dems to actually see where public sentiment is on this issue more than anything else. They wouldn't even let a Palestinian speak on stage at the DNC. It was all performative, empty gestures

Seriously- you are blaming the Democrats? Is there ANYTHING trump does that won’t be blamed on them? Our country is taken over by an unelected Nazi & his brown shirts, we are sending people to concentration camps here & other countries but somehow trump & the Republicans escape blame. Unbelievable.
Failure of Americans that don't read and don't know history. Failure of Americans to be so soft and manipulated by disinformation so easily. Failure of Americans to know how to vote in their best interest. Finally failure of many Americans to vote at all. Don't just casually blame this on Dems 100%
So if I understand your point, you are saying that if the Dems had actually seen “where public sentiment is on this issue,” perhaps Donald would not have won?
I remember hearing that the Democrats sent Bill Clinton out to like Wisconsin to scream at the Arab population that they didn't matter. Like Democrats need to permanently evict the clintons from their communications strategy because they are tin-eared idiots.
No one is using brown people except for those who professed to have their backs and didn’t. The Democratic Party definitely needs reworking, I’m on board with that but this new Gaza as a resort with Palestinians being shipped off all over the world? Trump told you he was going to back Israel.
Sure, but most people also don't support giving an ally just a blank check to unendingly bomb a place to smithereens. And that failed! Miserably! Hamas still holds Gaza, despite all of that bombing
It's almost as if in order to end the conflict, Israel needs to give Palestinians something to hope for in order to undermine Hamas, and that saying that Israeli security and Palestinian sovereignty are not mutually exclusive
Which again, could be aided by the country with the most powerful military on the planet exercising leverage over an ally and condition aid. But the US did not do this
Harris could have said that she would break with administration policy on Israel explicitly, which tbf, the US has invested a ton into Israel. Biden could have pulled a Netanyahu and gone to the Knessett and demanded Israel negotiate for a ceasefire and get the hostages back
So many other ways this could have gone other than the administration writing a blank check with no strings and giving a shruggie when asked if it would use some actual leverage
Man, I've been with the program longer than you've probably been alive, so put that sentiment away. Harris didn't break with Biden in ways that truly mattered, and even when pressed she didn't try, just literally listen to the parade of consultants and excellent reporting that's been done
So what? Pro Israel shouldn't mean "let Israel bomb shit to smithereens in an endless forever war financed by US that will fundamentally change nothing"
They wouldn’t even let a crumb of hope drop from the table. I thought Kamala was doing well otherwise. The damage of the Gaza stance should have been addressed. She was given a shit calendar, but consolidate your coalition was what was needed.
Harris literally defended Gaza during her acceptance speech, while Trump outright promised to do what he’s doing now, and somehow Harris was the problem? I think we can all acknowledge that protest vote was a mistake.
It's incumbent on a politician to persuade their voters. Harris refused to break with Biden on multiple policy points and she was hammered for that choice
Right, but I guess my point is, it was no secret what Trump was planning for Gaza. Or his hatred for Muslims in general. So it seems a bit disingenuous to assume no responsibility when the outcome was pretty obvious. We definitely know that a Harris admin wouldn’t have done this.
Do we? I really don't know to be honest. But those impressions are things politicians must work to change if they want to win people, and the Harris team did not do this
To be fair, the Palestinian supporters who demanded to speak weren’t acting in good faith and continued to disrupt in a quest for power in the party. The could have found a better voice though.
Uncommitted was fucking good faith as all get out. Abbas would have been happy to speak himself. If you'd bother to read any of the reporting you'd see this to be true
Those members at the DNC would have gone up in stage, said they wanted a ceasefire, and then also would have been happy to meet with Hersh Goldberg-Polin's family
Just polishing the turd that is both parties multi decade failure on Mideast policy where Israel is concerned, particularly where Biden was unwilling to even put explicit pressure on Netanyahu to end the war is laughable
Biden could have stopped the weapons under current US law. He failed to use the stick of no weapons to get Israel to comply and force Netanyahu to the table
Their behavior didn’t indicate that though. There was a bigger picture on the line, like it or not and we’re seeing the effects now. Too many said that there was no difference in the candidates.
Sometimes you have to see the bigger picture. They got whipped up, way too far. Not saying there wasn’t a cause, or a need, or a reason to seek justice but certainly a lack of wisdom and foresight.
There are plenty of Palestinian academics in the US who would have been good speakers and advocates. The rabble rousers weren’t it, not in a critical election. You have to work with people for a seat at the table.
Uncommitted absolutely was not. They wanted to force the Dems to give them power and specifically stated that the Dems losing would “ wake them up”. I know plenty who drank that Kool Aid and started to regret it quickly.
I don't think you've ever talked with Abbas, nor have you ever listened to either him or Ruwa Romann. Strongly urge you to read the reporting that This American Life did on his sit in at the DNC
I’ve spent over 5 years in the ME in multiple countries in the Levant. Been around everyone from Abbas to Bibi to Arafat to Olmert to Ashrawi to Rabin and Peres. From the ‘80’s on. Jokes on you
And because performative, empty gestures helped so much in the 2024 election, Dems decided to follow the same path this week in the face of Musk's couple. It's working out just as successfully this time.

I more pissed that dems sat on their hands for 4 years and did nothing.
Thats the challenge.
Its another nail in the “you have different values from me” coffin at least like the trans stuff.
