This happens on LI when I talk about staying in NYC. When I was growing up, the city could be a scary town. But it’s basically Disney-land now. And still people have this opinion.

I grew up in north NJ, so NYC was my go to city. Went to college in Delaware, so all of a sudden started hanging out in Philly and just fell in love with it. Philly is fantastic.
I think a lot of folk just don't get east coast nice. We make sure you're okay and then move on, we have shit to do.

I went to St. Joe's in the 90s. I was the only student I knew who (1) lived in the city and (2) commuted. Via SEPTA! I'd never before met peers who hadn't ridden the bus. They looked at me with pity that I had such life in such a place. It was so perplexing at the time but it was just racism.

I've been in Philly once, a few years ago, and while a little sprinkly/drizzly, I was more wondering where everyone was. Downtown was really quiet.
