Hi Isabel, I proudly shopped locally & small bus last Friday, and I'm happy to participate again. Declining profits are the only thing some people understand.
My work uses AWS for telework so that’s already busted. At a labor federation meeting, some organizers for unionizing at Amazon said that Amazon made most of its money with AWS, and that in part was how it subsidized lower prices which allowed it to undermine retailers nationally. Not sure if true.
I work in IT and it is true, AWS is at the core for them and there are no alternatives bar Azure (Microsoft) and google (to a much lesser extent. The lesson from the past decade is not to rely on this kind of market dominance, now a few EU firms out there but not at scale ...
Holy guacamole. A friend was telling my newly graduated from college boyfriend to get AWS certs and I was like, yeah, the evil empire, and they were like, yeah, but money. It’s now so part of the fabric, to get disentangled is Herculean. Thanks for the insight, glad to get confirmation, however sad.
I’m waiting till April to stop my Amazon account. However, the other day I made sure to have an Amazon blackout. Amazon made sure that they used my subscribe and save so that their numbers wouldn’t be lower because my subscribe and save wasn’t due till the middle of the month. They suck!
This is will be easy - haven’t ordered from Amazon since December- don’t miss it. Order directly from the companies when I can - is cheaper, just have to wait a few days for it instead of getting things by the next day. Would rather give my $$ to small business.
Would be great if we could get any impact statements about the black out last Friday. Headlines stolen by the #toddlerinchief's tantrum in the oval. Even if it was how many people participated. Small wins to big successes.
😭 I’m in but damn I’m going to miss my audible account…I like that it can pickup and play thru Alexa…which I can not give up my Alexa…it’s the only way I can turn on my bathroom lights right now…
Thanks I went with Librofm seems close to audible credits vs hrs of listening time. 15 hrs isn’t even 2 driving shifts. And I don’t have “local” library so no library card.
I don’t like in the town that has a library so don’t have a library card…thought it was stupid to have to pay for one when that is the town for the school district.
Okay so the “town”city I live in has 2 bars a couple churches and a storage unit…post office and that’s about it…I live in the country between corn fields… they closed the school a bigger town where the school district is has WM, Birger King, etc… but I’m even more interesting because I live so far…
Try Libro.FM, and pick the best independent bookstore near you. It’s a subscription service like Audible, but your purchase credits the indie bookstore as if you bought it there. Same audiobooks/narrators as on Audible, benefits small businesses. You can listen to Libro books on Alexa w/bluetooth.
It’s pretty great, I switched when I joined a book club at my local indie and I couldn’t afford to keep up both subs. And Libro has credit sales and stuff, too. I really like it!
I’ll tell my husband to use up the credits on audible and then cancel once he figures out how to download to a format that won’t require the audible player…

NO - you shouldn't impact people's medications.
AWS?
NO - they are the world's largest cloud provider. (You needed to nip that in the bud back in 2006. LOL)
If you give fascists money period, you're part of the problem.
