Right after our second kid was born, my work-at-home-mom wife got promoted into her boss' job. Twice as much money. We did the math on what childcare for two kids would cost, commuting into NYC, etc., and realized she'd be making $3,000 a year more to not see the baby. Turned them down.

That hits especially hard because my older one's now home from college (and without getting into the weeds, won't have a break at home longer than two weeks until he graduates in '27), and the baby she turned down the job for is in 11th grade. It's flown by.

"Declining forever" is not a serious statement. Do you really think humanity is just going to zero out.
