Yep just a way to harvest ID data from people wanting to use socials. Plus in some AUS states the age of criminal liability is 10, so a kid can be held criminally responsible, but is not responsible to use social media?

Yeah the "proper enforcement" thing will be interesting to witness. And any fines will be against multi billion corporations who can easily fund lengthy, expensive legal challenges if they so choose, not against some 15 year old kids.

The same age group are ostensibly far more intelligent and capable than those who put forward and passed the legislation. By orders of magnitude. It will achieve nothing towards actually reducing harm, support education, or anything else to address the cause. It's a husk of a bill to introduce ID.

The goal is get id checks enforced, not to help children.

The Overton window does not allow thinking freedom is worth enough to potentially protect some hypothetical children from any sort of imagined risk.

Properly is the keyword. The legislation easily allows changes. Labor doesn’t care about kids, that they will lose valuable support and learning. Labor doesn’t care if our personal information is exposed. They just want to control.

I wouldn’t let my daughter have a Facebook acct till she was 13 but all her friends were on long before. She was irate about the TikTok stuff, too - she sees it as suppression of youth voices and organizing. I don’t fully agree but she has a point.
