Disagree, a proud mom of 3 adults. I have friends who are treated like crap because they’re children married monsters. There are many factors that come into play. 💯
Not always the case. Depends. If the family structure has broken down one parent can easily alienate another parent. And the child may never know the truth or even be curious about it. I think statistics are about 20-25% of young people have cut off communications with their parents.
Maybe for the parents that don’t take care of their kids, but there are a lot of entitled brats that think their parents need to keep taking care of them forever.
My point is more that if someone needs to rely as heavily on their parents as your example, they don't qualify for OP's point to begin with, since that hinges on the person becoming independent to begin with.

Father: son, it is time to take your grandfather out to the woods [let him die]
Take our best horse blanket for your GF
Son does this but returns with 1/2 a horse blanket
Father, outraged; how could you leave your GF to die with only 1/2 a horse blanket
Kid: other half's for you
