Bad reviews mixed in with a positive overall score tells me it's either a good game that could use more polish, a good game that isn't for everyone and does not care, or both. And the latter two are infinitely more interesting to me than a safe game polished to a tee.

more diversity in review scores is good actually because it shows that different people had different expectations or experiences.

When it comes to mainstream releases, all too often it feels like reviews check the general vibe of that games subreddit and just use that as a baseline.

I mean it's an unpopular opinion but in my eyes modern reviews are a "failure" by design. There was basically no evolution from early 90s reviews to todays reviews. We removed the checkboxes on the side for good graphics etc but the vibe is still the same. Reviews are to tech focused.

Yeah understandable and like it said it's more provocative than it should be. I just believe that video games as an art form "elvoved" faster than the general audience. Reviews obviously changed as well but not the format itself, reviews are to tech focused in my opinion and reviewers

Singular games that try different things that only please a certain audience are kind of the best and often get mixed reviews.

Yep, that's why people need to check if this is a 7/10 because there are mostly 7/10 or because there are 10/10 and 5/10.

The best is just to have a reviewer that have the same taste as you.

This is how I know they got Stalker 2 right. It is not a game series for everyone, for most really. I think if most of those low score reviews actually played SoC at least, they would probably score it similarly. Some of my most favorite games of all time barely crack mid-70’s on MC.
