I assume advertising is probably a huge issue, I remember they showed shiren 6 in Japanese Nintendo directs but there was no mention of it in any of the western directs. Feels like it mostly relied on word of mouth here

i knew that the shiren series existed, but never thought about it that much, not until i saw a post about it some time ago that then led me to play it.
i really liked the game, but it seems its not very well known game.

It's hard to say. When introduced to Shiren the Wanderer, many PMD fans expressed no interest in the series. Admittedly my sources may be biased, as I really only engaged with the MysteryDungeon subreddit. It -is- a Mystery Dungeon game after all.

It’s a bummer, but I can see why it doesn’t seem as appealing. I know some pmd fans love it for the story and the pokemon factor first, not so much for the gameplay, and that’s more the focus of shiren I feel
