For one thing, he is brutally honest about mistakes and episodes he is not proud of. He is underrated as a storyteller; he brought many of the weirdest moments to Star Trek. Authors and writers of all kinds take note....
I just love the big smile on his face whenever he talks about Threshold or Subrosa the episodes he wrote that are considered some of the worst episodes of Trek. The first podcast we talked about Threshold he said "Yeah, I flew to close to the sun on that one."
I see Subrosa as Trek's attempt to Gothic horror. There was one scene that freak me out when I saw. There were some odd parts about it which made me go hmmm . I think it show what David Gerrold said in World of Star Trek. The format is very flexible and you can a whole bunch of story types.
