Known for his excellent horror fiction @pfracassi.bsky.social joins me to talk about his first science fiction novel. We talk for the first half without spoilers and then we get into the nuts and bolts of the writing of this great novel. Video via Youtube!

We have completed a good portion of the Dickapedia- Philip K Dick encyclopedia. The book will be published as a fundraiser for 2026 and 2028 PKD International festival.

My WW II movie-a-thon continues. Powerful film filled with excellent dialogue and performances. I expected Lee Marvin and Jack Palace to kill it but the stars of Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres being incredible was a nice surprise.

It is no Army of Shadows, but it does have scenes that are more heartbreaking than that film. I don't know how I missed it.

You might be able to geuss what project I am gearing up to work on.

I liked Severance's S2 finale quite a bit. Since I have already sold a second article on the themes of Philip K. Dick in Severance, this finale connected the greater mystery to themes in both Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (stuff only in the novel) and there is UBIK all over Severance.

Took the birthday off and trained up to Oceanside to walk on the shore of the gulf of Australia.

Birthday lunch at the Plot in Oceanside, we sat by their awesome garden. They grow a lot of stuff they serve. All vegan and amazing. Truffle fries were incredible and had a beet Reuben.

I was on @davidagranoff.bsky.social’s podcast which included a number of scholars & fans of Philip K. Dick. The podcast is appropriately named DickHeads. Glad I got to nerd out & discuss Ubik, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, half-life, & other futuristic & prophetic works of Chicago born PKD!

The first of the live interviews is up on the Dickheads Podcast youtube feed. First up is Dan Abella founder of the The Philip K Dick Film Festival. Join us tonight for another live recording...

(PKD) Dick hangouts/interviews in March… Join us live Tuesdays at 9PM EST/6 PM PST to join the discussion. This Week! March 18 – @cynthiapelayo.bsky.social author of Vanishing Daughters, will talk about the influence of UBIK, on her new novel, Half-life, energy of the dead, and haunted Chicago.

Doing a major overhaul (3rd draft really) of Unfinished PKD based on notes I received on the second draft. I have finished the first 13 chapters, and that means I only have two left. The thing is the last chapters are...

WW II mission movie. unlike most of the movies in this genre, this one is an outstanding film about the insanity of war. Told from both sides of the battle over a single bridge that Nazis are using to retreat. Slow start, but the last hour is filled with powerful moments, after a powerful moment.

So weird that in 1958 both Philip K. Dick (Time Out of Joint) and Richard Matheson (Stir of Echoes) had novels released with the odd marketing tagline "A novel of menace." I feel that fits Stir better but I stumbled upon Damon Knight's review of Stir at the time and he was confused by it at the time

As I am almost done reading book two of this series... My last interview with Hoosier science fiction and horror author Maurice Broaddus.

275 pages in into book 2 of this amazing series by Hoosier author @mauricebroaddus.bsky.social the Black Astra series is a must read for fans of The Expanse. Worth the wait, this is one of my anticipated reads this year.

Watched Trespass the 2011 Joel Schumacher movie. It is a very Panic Room-style thriller all in one set about a burglary. It is kind of a lost movie but the performances from Nic Cage and Nicole Kidman carry the movie. Maybe my bar was low because I watched after playing basketball for four hours.

Anneke Van Giersbergen the long-time vocalist of the goth-metal band The Gathering on Dutch TV covering Madonna's Ray of Light - This cover is a total banger.

Released in 1965, this strange John Brunner novel is mostly forgotten as a transitional bridge from his pulp space opera to his era of late 60s/early 70s masterpieces. It opens with some PKD-ish humor, but it is ultimately a novel about mid-20th-century racism and dying British colonialism.

There are plenty of nerdy things about me, but the fact that I have dated Philip K. Dick manuscripts within a four year window entirely by comparing the typeset to manuscripts that were dated...that is all-caps NERD. For example...

Book review up for The Gemma Files primer from the Exploring the Dark Short Fiction series edited by @ericjguignard.bsky.social This series is 7/7 incredible. davidagranoff.blogspot.com/2025/03/book...

Book review up for the 7th in @eric_j._guignard ‘s amazing Exploring Short Dark Fiction primer series. 7/7 incredible books. Gemma Files is another worthy entry might be my favorite after the Han Song one.

Audiobook listen. That is how you do alternate history and multiverse fiction. @lavietidhar is simply one of my favorite authors now. Amazing stuff.

I am biased, I suppose, as I have interviewed him three times, but Brannon Braga (who has written over 100 hours of Star Trek, 24, Cosmos, Terra Nova, and The Orville) is one of my favorite writers or authors to listen to interviews with...

Tonight Alec Nevala-Lee! join us for a live conversation! link in the thread...

It is amazing.

@cynthiapelayo.bsky.social returns to Postcards from a Dying World talk about her new novel Vanishing Daughters!

Spy thriller shot on iphone...

Review up for this multiverse SF horror hybrid. This is well written by @christopherhawkins.bsky.social with escalating horrors. I wish the novel pushed the multiverse angle to higher concepts, my only nitpick. Quick read. Due out 4/30

Phasers not set on stun.
