Not sure if it helps, but professional copyeditors read on average 1000 words per hour. So maybe we need twice the time?

Like, what are the numbers you have to put in for your own courses? I might do an upgrade where I let the students submit their numbers to a survay to see what they expect.

This is a fantastic tool. If not just for students’ situational awareness of how labor-intensive the grading process is, then definitely for my own, as I tend to downplay how much time and effort it will take.

Also, I feel like your 1,000-word reading time is pretty realistic.

Yesand: I think that transparency is always helpful, and it would be nice if students, senior leadership and marking staff all had the same expectations of what the numbers that go into the equation are.

And..like.. genuinely give students choice right? I can skim your work and you’ll get it back super quick. Or I can write 20 minutes of feedback for each paper but you’ll wait another six weeks. We should know the position of each cohort and also the SU in general.

It'd be nice, but I find that given choice, students often pick the most labour intensive option for teachers, then don't leverage the benefits. My panopto/RePlay stats tell a sad story of requests (30+) vs views (single digits). But I agree that choice is key even if it's not capitalised on.

I was certainly shocked, after many emails telling me I had been tardy putting up videos, to find that nobody had watched them. To the extent that I worry there is something wrong with the tracking.

That's certainly a possibility. It's why i used to turn on downloads during the lockdown period for better tracking of access (if not view time). However, concerns over reupload or misrepresentation make me cautious these says.
