And, no one needs to listen to James Carville.

Although, academics often don’t engage w/journalists &/or political campaign research which is also an issue.

But Carville is a consultant; he's not interested in reading existing knowledge he's interested in running lots of polls and having a huge budget and telling Democrats not to be too different from republicans. The academy could do everything right and the consulting class would still not listen 🤷

I worked in Democratic campaigns for years, rubbing elbows with these consultants (though not Carville personally) and the level of corruption that's just casually passed around is nuts. Mostly it takes the form: "you know me; use my services; don't shop around"

what's going to happen? a) they convince the party not to back those candidates and to support primary challenges against them (so many examples; Rahm Emanuel was the worst when he was head of DCCC), then they blacklist the consultants who work for those candidates (often promising upcoming talent).
