Trump drops below 50% of the popular vote, with a smaller margin of victory than Hillary had in 2016, both in terms of percentage and raw vote margin. And they want us to think there's a mandate...

I think there is a mandate, but not in that way. All about context. Given that roughly 40% of voting aged people didn't even vote, and enough of the Dem's target demo flipped their vote or didn't vote at all, I think it speaks clearly. Change is wanted. Dems need to make it tangible to vote for.
And to be clear, I mean my last sentence to say tangible to the voters that isn't rock solid, pure base, blue no matter who. That tricky spot where you meet the voters where they are but not compromise on your beliefs to your platform. A lot easier said than done.
There are some starting to point to a discrepancy in “bullet ballots”, single vote ballots. There’s exponentially more than there should be in several key states
Election fraud???
The more the votes come in, the more it's apparent that this was NOT a red wave, or a landslide. He's just as pathetic as ever, the Democrats just didn't show up en masse.
Right? You'd think everyone would have had PTSD from 2016 - though I think there's more factors than just Dems staying home. I think a lot of people voted based off the economy/inflation (despite it being cause by covid, not Biden).
The literal facts and particulars were in everyone’s faces in various forms. People didn’t and don’t care; I’ve come to accept that willful ignorance, nihilism and an addiction to convenience are as American as apple pie. That isn’t to dismiss your point, but it just feels it would go this way.
Trust me, I know! I tried shoving the facts, graphs, resources, etc. in my families face with no luck. My dad said, "I feel what I feel in the moment, and right now prices are high with Biden and they weren't with Trump". Like... not sure what else to do if they're going off of feelings.
The demoralized man does not change his views even when faced with the truth. Demoralizing takes ~20 years, supposedly, and then part two, chaos; only takes a few weeks, then part 3, destabilized infrastructure...
It’s son much more than that. People are rightly angry about the two party system they were looking for ANYTHING other than the mainstream. The mandate stuff to BS, but there is a need for self reflection on the left.
No shade intended, but I love how you said ‘as American as apple pie’ because apple pie isn’t an American invention, but Americans claiming something as uniquely theirs that doesn’t really belong to them IS 100% American.
I’m just stepping aside. They can figure this mess out. They !being Trump voters and the idiot purity leftists who sat out/sabotaged things can figure it out. Which, in effect, means Democrats will have the thankless task of being the adults in the room - in perpetuity. What an endless nightmare.
Your party often forgets that alone, its numbers are not enough to win. You need unaffiliated moderates, liberals and conservatives that don’t have a predetermined home. I come through for you every election, but your party tends to be light on the creative ideas to draw in those without a party.
Sounds like that’s your view, one certainly shared by some, but not everyone. Additionally, at no time did I say that none of the elements you mentioned weren’t required re: Democrats. I spoke of a binary choice and what will come out of that lack of discernment. I wonder what “ideas” the GOP has.
Wasn’t disagreeing with you at all. Dems ain’t shit right now as you say, and they have largely caused the conditions that will make trump’s success as an authoritarian more likely. It’s unfortunate that we have a two party system, otherwise we wouldn’t be here having this agreement/disagreement.
But I maintain: the Dem electorate had a binary choice. Their shortsightedness is equally culpable in this moment as a Trump voter. Democrats are far from perfect, but Harris ran a solid campaign and it held potential. Unfortunately nihilistic vanity/willful ignorance is electorally en vogue. Smdh.
That's why Republicans win. Their voters votr while many Democrats are frustrated over a few things they disagree with & stay home, let their party lose to "stick it to them". This works in a multi party system where parties create coalitions, not in our 2 party system where it's us vs them
Votes were destroyed in ballot drop boxes. My vote and my husband’s votes were not counted. Millions of others claiming the same. We showed up, our votes are just being suppressed.
I just have such a hard time believing this. I literally drove across the country to vote. I had a drivers license in a fl and a physical address in Wv, so I had to make them match to register. We knew this was an important election.
A bit more complex, MAGAs had the audacity to sign up voters in rural traditional non-voting precincts, DEM ground game had a blind spot there when Musk was sponsoring this with millions for fulltime canvassing. If the EC comes down to < 200k vote margins this is most effective use of campaign funds
It's just a fraction of a percent below 50. I found this from the Nation: "As of Monday afternoon, Trump was at 49.94 percent, while Harris was at 48.26, according to the authoritative Cook Political Report’s tracking of results from official sources in states across the country."
As Trump voters see the truth coming that was told to them by Dems before their eyes some regret their vote but most are looking forward to the wreckage unfortunately there's no turning back. Brace yourself.
And want us to forget about the Musk/Russian campaigns to suppress votes by boosting disinformation to targeted voter groups, and bomb threats. It’s going to, as it did in 2016, come down to a few areas where vote totals were tight and tipped the balance. He may have “won” but he sure had help.
It was rigged! We had women voting for their rights, Gen Z and Swifties and even Republicans. Putin wanted his puppet back in. That’s ok. Repugs will have control of everything so let’s just see how great they think that can make America be.🤦🏻♂️🤬
A "mandate" with less than 50% and a smaller margin than 2016? Sounds more like wishful thinking than reality. True mandates are earned through unity, not division.
It wasn’t a landslide at all lol
It was a smaller margin of victory than we thought at election night
However it’s still sort of a massive wake up call that this is the first time a Republican has won the popular vote in 20 years
He tried overturning the last election guys and he won after that…
Why you don't think americans are that stupid because we elected regan the worst president in history by 500 EV so it shouldn't come as a surprise to you
The fact that we’re still focusing on this as if any of it is legitimate is terrifying. Russia has interfered with this election and there is proof, we have to be unashamedly loud in pressuring Biden to protect us from this fascist takeover. It’s his duty and it’s our duty to speak truth to power.
It's looking more rigged than it was before. I know, worlds weirdest coincidence, directly proportionate to how much my guy wins. I'm still waiting for an appointment.
The issue is the vast majority of the population will not learn this. We have a national news issue. How do we get factual news to the population....and have them believe it?
Sure.
It’s a mandate.
Trump knew nothing about Project 2025.
They’re only deporting the “bad” migrants.
Trump will unveil his healthcare plan in 2 weeks.
I could go on but I’m giving myself a headache.
Because Conservatives never operate in reality. They push perception and to them that is all that matters, cause the media amplifies their narratives as fact.

I am not going to go into election denial as that makes me no better than MAGA, but this has been doing the rounds a bit the past day or two. Perhaps this could be worth looking into: https://substack.com/home/post/p-151721941
This dude was also recently on Thom Hartmanns Show.
My father is a US ARMY VETERAN who moved from Cali to Florida right b4 registration closed. He wasn’t familiar with the “voter suppression” going on in FL and when he realized his US PASSPORT was not enough to register, he was pretty pissed. NO ONE DESERVES THAT BUT REALLY, A US MILITARY VET???
Wait, so Trump isn’t a fully loved, wonderful human being who doesn’t shit his diapers every hour?
Next you’re going to tell me Fox, Newsmax and OAN aren’t pillars of news information.
Nice try David. I know the truth is that Trump does shit himself every hour no matter what you say!!
This makes me feel both better and worse. Better that the brain rot doesn’t run quite as deep as I thought, and worse that we couldn’t get more folks to show up to the polls to overcome this small gap.
Trump is not a Christian, Trump knows the indoctrination of the Christians and wants their blind faith. Their pasture says whatever and they believe it, Trump says whatever and they believe it, because this is all they’ve ever known.
Shortly after the election his win was called a landslide by many, and it was like a 2 to 3% win over Kamala - how is that a landslide? Now it has shrunk some from even that, and as you say tRump does not have even 50%. And don't try that electoral college landslide bs either.
Always remember, for the MAGA'ts and Trump sucker's reality is whatever he feeds them.
Remember he told them notvto believe anything they see or hear only what he and his synchophants tell them.
This just makes it even more sad that he won. Unbelievable that people didn't show up for her. She wasn't the best but she was way better than what we'll get.
They’re going to claim a mandate no matter what. They’re not in the “words have meaning” crowd (unless they’re talking about gender, then linguistic precision suddenly becomes incredibly important for some reason). The question is how long that illusion can survive Trump’s stupid bullshit.
I wonder how popular he'll be after one year, two years, three years and four years. If he even gets through all four years without the country crashing so hard it becomes a bipartisan effort to get him away.

Election fraud???
They voted for Trump by staying home. Hope they’re proud.
I can’t wait for these fascist assholes to reap what they’ve sowed.

Then when they respond with "yes" you just let them know that that applies to Hillary and not Trump. 😂
What will enter the History Books depends on what happens next. 🍀

I think you gotta be careful about this Pakman.
I know you are fighting the good cause every day, but at what point are you only fighting the fight maga want you to fight?
At least makes me feel a tad bit better regarding the allegations of “lost/destroyed” ballots.
