An electric vehicle is utterly out of reach for me financially and I have nowhere to charge it at home. I only know of 2 public charging points in our town. None where I work. It's simply not possible for me to replace my petrol car with one at the moment.

What town? With very few exceptions, I think you'll be suprised at charging locations. Not being able to charge at home is an issue though.

Bio diesel is what we need. And it can be produced from algae..

Sure, let's ban profits. Then companies will no longer have an incentive to invest and create jobs, and the whole economy goes belly-up and all the pension plans, mutual funds and small investors who own shares can go suck on the hind tit.

The public EV charging network increased 43% last year and had quadrupled since 2020, and there us now one pubkic charger per 19 EVs on the road, what exactly would fast enough growth look like.

As an EV owner of 10+ years, the charging network in the UK is mostly fantastic especially around motorways. As long as you can charge at home. If you can't charge at home, EVs are a problem. That's where all of the governments efforts need to focus. Crack that problem and EV sales will rocket.

Electric cars are a slight improvement but still don't improve traffic, tyre plastic in waterways, road noise, pedestrian road deaths and so on. Only investment in public transport does that. Also building new cars of any description is enormously wasteful so, no, Ford. Stand on your own two feet.

Targets have been imposed on motor manufacturers for the percentage of vehicles they sell to be BEV or hybrid however Chinese BEVs are subsided & the public are still more inclined to buy petrol.

Tesla (🤢) have shown the way to drive EV sales. It's charger availability and cost. Subsidise the existing charging infrastructure so that everyone can charge cheaply, get a charger installed on their house, or have some way to charge on their street. 100% better than subsidising the cars.

Ev subsidies saw huge rise in sales. Withdrawal of them and negative comments from sunak saw them drop. Add in lack of support for battery factories and charging facilities and your never going to hit targets.
It's easy, if you do want change support subsidies funded by rises in fuel duties.

EVs should be subsidised by a tax on ICE vehicles to the point where the EV is significantly cheaper than the ICE.

Of course, there should also be investment in public transport and cycling and walking infrastructure to reduce car usage.

Stop subsidizing petrol, definitely. But people are short sighted; even though petrol is already far more expensive than electricity, they buy petrol cars. If the petrol car was more expensive and the EV cheaper, it would make a big difference quickly.

Ford (& VW) decided to adopt a dismissive attitude to EVs. Their strategy was to make them more expensive and less desirable. Their futures now are comparable to those of Blackberry and Nokia following the introduction of smart phones.
