In 1974 we had school dinners and not just chips and nuggets, free school meals&milk,our school kitchen cooked for the council run OAP home on the estate opposite the school, , subsidised laundries, Dr’s, library van, shops, post war social brilliance

When I look at what my 14 & 15 year olds spend £5 (each) a day on at their school canteen it’s usually popcorn, flavoured water and cookies. Sometimes a hearty portion of chips on Fridays. Awful, and totally out of our control.

The distribution of wealth is the issue. The greens wanted to target the 40% tax band but that's counter productive since it hits the wrong group. It's the top end that needs taxing.

It's not just prices going up, it's reduction in brands available as well.

Local One-Stop (so owned by Tesco) has stopped selling Tesco milk now it's cheapest is Muller milk which is around 20% more.
