Why not include surveillance of the bank accounts of those who may be underdeclaring their taxable income? There is far more potential for the Treasury to benefit from tax dodgers than benefit claimants.

I have and agree that it is despicable. I still maintain that it should apply to MPs also since, in recent years, they have also exhibited criminal tendencies and defrauded the public purse.

One would naively assume it'd be applied to those in receipt of other "benefits", i.e. - public subsidies, tax breaks, tax payer-funded contracts etc.
Imagine anyone from this cohort waking up one day and discover their fraudulently acquired assets frozen and no legal route to challenge or appeal

Not just the poor-this opens the door on surveillance of anyone-starting with anyone receiving a paid-for right (pension) it easilu extends to anyone who receives unemployment or even NHS care-all paid-for benefits)…

Politicians should live that which they inflict. MP’s, peers, families of same to two degrees of separation, SPADS, party officials, national and local should have their incomes surveilled and reported publicly. More damage to national interests from politicians taking cash than claimants.

It isn’t manned so only those who were being bad would trigger action. That said, increasing the taxes of the very wealthy would generate far more money than this could ever recoup, not to mention just making the wealthy dodgers pay! As long as the rich get elected this will never happen though.

The article says you _can_ appeal once they have made a decision. You can't appeal the evidence gathering - i.e. the snooping on your bank.
