Fortunately for the tourist operators a substantial fraction of northern hemisphere reply guys don't realise the implications and those of us down here will know to dress warmly.
Honestly, Milford is the last place I'd want to try to see a sunset eclipse. It rains three out of four days, literally the wettest place in the country.
Also, someone will have to do the geometry on this, but the sun might be *behind* those mountains by that time of day in July?
there was an annular eclipse in welly in 91 that I remember as a kid but i don't think there've been any total or annular ones since then that were visible here.

Though I suppose, one would have to get *extremely* lucky with the weather...
Downside, of course, is that it is very hard to get to and not a good place for a conference :)
