What a great read. It articulated a lot of what I feel myself. The idea of making less money by using a publisher has enormous appeal, because as comic creator I’ve already sacrificed the ability to make a good living, so making one more decision like this simply gives me more time to draw.

So recently I went with an indie publisher The Mansion Press, and have found the owner to be a delight. Impossible to know how it will play out at this stage, but in light of your article, I will def share my experiences.

Im in the animation world but I’ve been thinking about self publishing comics for a while. I think similar things are starting to happen in animation too, the trends are there with all these layoffs across entertainment. We have to just start doing it ourselves no matter how hard and long it takes

Not enough characters for me to add everything I want to say, it’s awful right now for everyone. But I agree stubbornness is the the only way to do this

Thank you for writing this. This post helped me process some of my thoughts around this all.

I'm still a very new cartoonist, but Silver Sprocket was the first place I sold my comics. It's been sad to hear about how many artists were burned by them.

ugh self publishing is not the future of comics. This will only allow the rich and bored to produce books while the rest of us struggle with day jobs and family. I know I need to find a pub to PAY ME to get a story out.
