Didn’t Iran trade the first batch of Shaheds for Su-35s? That’s not a bad plane! I don’t think they are getting eviscerated just on the basis of equipment. There’s some deep problems in the Iranian military

Aside from the fact that the Israeli plan was very well designed and executed, most of the Islamic regime’s military leadership selections have been solely based on loyalty rather than competence. I was not expecting anything else from them.
In WW1 at the Battle of the Somme the British and French spent a week bombarding German positions. Thinking they had eviscerated German defences they attacked.
In 3 hours Britain took 60,000 casualties, France a similar number.
Germans had just sat out the bombarding.
Iran?
The Su-35 might look impressive on paper, but against Israeli-upgraded F-35s and elite pilots, it’s dead meat. In a real fight, Israel would dominate the skies and turn those Russian jets into flying coffins.
Iran isn't only fighting Israel. It is fighting the US (Israel gets the latest weapons and intel), the UK (the accusation was made in the last UNSC that the UK had allowed Israel to use resources on Cypress), and France (who helped in April 2024) & said they will defend Israel.
At some level the Iranian people have to be thinking about how their vaunted military is getting their asses handed to them. For most of the Iranians all their lives they were told their military is one of the strongest in the world. If your government is rolled over in a day how does it continue?
There's a vast technological and intelligence gap. Israel's ability to disable all air defenses, launch attacks from within Iran, and target Revolutionary Guard and nuclear program leaders is astonishing.
It's not about planes, it's about the pilots.

The news about the purchase was January around the time Trump took office

Rampant corruption and incompetence.
Most authoritarian regimes people get far based on blind loyalty and not merit.
What fascinates me is how little they seem to have had in Gaza before October, 2023.
▫️The end of Israel is near.
