I thought you were opposed to us pushing for this right now, saying we’re not ready? Or are you simply wanting to force Parliament to have to discuss it?
I really don’t think that opening up this debate again is going to be beneficial to anyone other than Farage. As the US has shown us, economic growth isn’t enough to hold off the populist right.
Best chance we have is that Trump becomes so toxic here that the only option left is the EU or China.
May as well kiss the UK goodbye with this attitude. What the US showed was CEO bonuses, shareholder returns, and massive untaxed corporate profits don't reflect life for the average person. Line goes up is simply not enough anymore.
As a EU citizen living in the UK and wishing as close cooperation between both as possible, I don't expect anything meaningful out of this "debate" and struggle to see the purpose.
It's not the minister I have expectations of, but those taking part in the debate. If they raise the same tired old questions then the minister can only state established policy. I'd be hoping MPs ask some newer questions. Like why don't we have an economic assessment report for brexit?
Signed that petition and the one to allow UK medical cannabis patients grow their own, it will make zero difference as usual. Petitions are right up there with public enquiries for abject pointlessness.
Signed - love to see how close we are to that 100k already! The more politicians can trust that public opinion has turned, the more comfortable they’ll be moving us towards the EU.

Of course this does not mean we will return to the EU.
But it raises its profile and reminds the government that we have not been silenced.
A small step - but one in the right direction.
