Approximately one third of US adults voted for Trump, one third for Harris, and one third abstained. Some who voted for Trump are elated with his show of force today. But many simply voted against the status quo. 2/7
I appreciate this thread, but I'm left wondering: for each of the demographics that voted for him, are they going to hear/care about the other awful stuff? Does someone who voted based on economic mobility care about the rest? Does a true, to the core fascist care about the price of eggs?
Just based on stats I’ve seen previously, my best guess is that about 1/3 of people who voted Trump in 2024 or abstained, will hear about the faschy stuff and be okay with it. Another 1/3 will be opposed. And the rest will have no clue what’s going on.
Most people pay very little attention to politics. Many Trump voters voted against the incumbents because they are reasonably frustrated about economic mobility (e.g., access to housing, healthcare, high wage jobs, etc.) 3/7
They did not vote for pulling out of international treaties, ending basic constitutional rights, taking a war stance with allies, or any of the other radical policies Trump is trying to implement tonight. 5/7
When they opt to vote, they do so to be part of a team—something bigger than themselves that feels good, validating, and fulfilling. Most people— even Trump voters— did not vote for radical policies that fundamentally shift the country. 6/7
This isn’t meant to absolve anyone. I’m not here to cast blame or offer solace. There simply is no mandate for the flurry of unilateral, in some cases fantastical, executive actions happening now. 7/7
Dear Jennifer,
Maybe you're right. I've never been to USA, I can't judge.
I can only remember what I saw in Ukraine after the 2019 election. I can only remember the people who voted for the populists. They supported every evil act of the government that they elected.
I guess I am biased.
Honestly, I saw this happening when Hillary got the nomination over Bernie. So many #BernieBros hopped ship over to Trump and I could see why. Both were seen as political outsiders vs career politician(funny enough) it's why many voted for AOC & Trump this time too.
His victory is under 2%. Even if everyone voted it would not be a mandate. He is just a bossy weirdo who wants to be important. He isn’t. He’s the avatar of capital and economic forces.
I don’t think it’ll be political leaders if Chuck Schumer is any indication — altho I’ve seen a few such posts since the election abt the lack of a mandate. Dr. Victor makes the more thorough point, but the final vote is clear on its face. The problem is the “paying attention,” not the lack of info.
I completely understand the frustration about messaging, but the electorate has responsibilities in a democracy. If voters don’t pay attention, ask questions, or think critically about their government, I’m not sure what different messaging will do. The GOP playbook is a race to the bottom IMO.

Ignorance of politics isn’t an excuse to vote in a Nazi rapist.
Wanting a “vibe shift” isn’t an excuse, unless fascism is the vibe you’re looking for.
Political leaders?
We are woefully unprepared to communicate it.
Tell him.
