Sanders: I come from the state of Vermont and I am here Bakersfield. Alexandria comes from New York and she is here in Bakersfield. Mr. Congressman, you live in this district, why donā€™t you show upā€¦

I want to tell you why the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia should matter to you. The one power you cannot give the executive is the ability to imprison or expel anyone regardless of their legal rights. That is our key check against autocracy. And we are watching it disappear.

Love this for Chuck!

Constituents to Chuck Grassley: "Are you bringing back that guy from El Salvador?" Senior Citizen: ā€œIf I get an order to pay a ticket to pay $1200 and I just say ā€˜noā€™, does that stand up? Because he just got an order from the Supreme Court and he just said ā€˜screw itā€™ā€ ā€œIā€™M PISSED!ā€

Letā€™s be clear. When the President defies the Supreme Court, it is the role of Congress to remove him from office. Full stop.

If you paid $1 In federal income taxes, you paid more than: Tesla in 2024 & 2022 AT&T in 2021 Nike in 2020 FedEx in 2020 Dish Network in 2020 Amazon in 2017-2018 Elon Musk in 2018 Jeff Bezos in 2007 & 2011 Carl Icahn in 2016-2017 Yes. Itā€™s time to tax the rich.

all else aside, thank god for the library though

ā˜¹ļø Pepper got returned to the shelter. When he first came in last year he was the scrungliest stray but so sweet. He looked like he was 3x his actual age. He got adopted a couple months ago and I donā€™t know why he was returned but he is just the nicest gentleman. www.hsccvt.org/Cats#sl_embe...

Books entertain and educate. Book clubs build community. Now's a good time to be a part of a community, if you'd like.

They are daring anyone to stop them.

They donā€™t care. They donā€™t care that the Supreme Court ruled 9-0 to bring an innocent man home to his family. They donā€™t care. They think itā€™s funny.

AOC: We saw Majorie Taylor Greene buy that dip. How much did you make? How much did you make off of peopleā€™s despair? How much did you make off of that panic? How much did you make off of that suffering? No more. We canā€™t accept it

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Letā€™s hope others follow suit.

Requiring REAL IDs and passports and birth certificates to vote?!? Imagine if these were required to buy a gun.

I have this radical lefty belief that voting should be easier than buying a gun.

BREAKING: The country of Norway just entered a bill to give transgender Americans asylum in the country of Norwayā€¦ LGBTQ+ STRONG! šŸŒˆāœØ

He will be good for the economy, they say? Legal organization challenging Trumpā€™s tariffs is backed by some of the biggest names in conservative politics. Tensions continue to rise as factions within the party begin targeting each other. šŸ˜‚

Hope this helps.

Reminder: Use your libraries. It helps them advocate for continued funding. Check out DVDS Use their printers Check out Books Use their digital services (Kanopy, Hoopla, Libby) See if they have a library of things (tools, electronics, games) Take classes Libraries help everyone, including you!

Nothing seems to go quite as hard as church bells at 6:55 AM, why that time? I'm not sure, I thought they went off on the hour.

This surprises no one who grew up on the internet.

Tariffs? Out of control. Prices? Skyrocketing. Emergency powers? Heā€™s abusing them. And yetā€¦ not a single question about whether heā€™s even fit to serve. The math ainā€™t mathing.

Went swimming for the first time in years yesterday. Felt good to be back in the water but it was a stark reminder of just how changed I am physically since last time. I couldn't get my breathing right during my freestyle stroke šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø

Take a deep breath and look at these otters relaxing. You probably need it.

When I die, I wanna see my stats. Like how long was I on the toilet and how many times?

Just a reminder Hands off our libraries and museums!

I took photography in high school and loved working in the dark room watching as my photographs came out. Is this even offered as a course these days?

ā€œHe made 2.5 million today and he made $900 million. Thatā€™s not bad.ā€ Sounds like market manipulation to me. Thatā€™s bad.

Have you visited your local library lately?

Kid Rock makes music for dudes who are only allowed to see their kids on weekends, but donā€™t ! šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Every day I set my alarm for 5:15 AM with the intention of getting my shit together. And every day without fail I scroll for an hour and scramble to make it out the door on time at 7:30

Can the smarter-than-everyone ā€œnothing good will ever happen againā€ people just shut the fuck up for any moment, ever

We have 3 branches of federal government. Usually, if one is not working properly, the other 2 can step in. Have we ever had another time in our nation's history when *none* of the branches were working? Yes, the judiciary seemed prepared to step into the breach--until SCOTUS ruined things again.

I'm sure this surprises no one. Jasmine Crockett calling out the hypocrisy of the White House

Enough said.

#ICYMI folks w/deep experience re:crisis web archiving (@sucho-org.bsky.social)+building tools for it (@webrecorder.net) made a free zine teaching how anyone can archive the things you love on the web before they go away: zinebakery.com/homemade-zin... & why you shouldn't expect others will do so

I bounce between hope and despair like a pinball these days.

Had fast food for the first time in several months. My body rejected it forcefully and painfully. So sad because I did eat to be able to enjoy it on occasion.

Iā€™m saying this in my capacity as an author and once and future library worker: Read whatever the hell you want. I cannot impress enough on you that the ā€œimportantā€ books arenā€™t important if you donā€™t jive with them. The popular books, the canon, the whatever. Read what you want.

I didn't even realize season 6 of The Handmaid's Tale was out, guess that's what happens when fiction becomes reality.

Get involved locally and change your part of the world for the better.

Republicans think slashing and tearing things apart is the solution to everythingā€”especially immigration. But mass deportation isnā€™t a plan. Itā€™s dangerousā€”and it leads to innocent U.S. citizens being deported. Just another example of them having no real planā€”only concepts of one.

#NationalLibraryWeek #LiteracyMatters

And thatā€™s no stretch.

Anyone else wake up with a song in their head that just plays on repeat all day?

Iā€™m going to say this gently; you need to adjust your expectations for how the republicans in your life are going to deal with this, bc it is not going to be with ā€œoh my god I was so wrongā€ like some seem to be hoping. They are going to double down on blaming whatever other they can find

I cannot overstate the importance of reading books, particularly novels by respected authors, for critical thinking skills and reading comprehension. If the big gun novelists don't interest you, start small and work your way up. Or read whatever interests you. Just read. Or listen. It's all books.
