HRVs usually only filter the incoming air btw, not the air inside the house. It depends on a bunch of factors, it may or may not be a big deal in your house.
We have 2 filthy free range dogs, our filter can't keep up lol
You're touching on a major issue though: most aren't willing to spend what it takes.
You might consider a Delta T pump btw, they can help a lot.
