I mean, it was pretty good but I can’t say I’m shocked audiences shrugged about a prequel made years after the fact that didn’t have Charleze Theron. I’m not sure we really needed to fully flesh out her backstory. Like most prequels, Fury Road gave us what we needed.

I had the same question and for me it felt like that release snuck up so I dug around when I heard that criticism. Found a decent write up about it which makes a lot of sense.

Hard to get solid data tho

As a venezuelan going through the same thing in my country, the whole thing about her dating that guy and insulting a cuban reporter while being confronted about it, went down very much as you'd expect for a lot of people who cheered her for her Cuban representation.
