Gosh, very difficult legal question, is it "facilitating" someone's return when you're paying another country to detain them?

I'm not a big Seth Rogen fan but he gave an interview recently where he basically said "comedy is supposed to be hard and if you can't make people laugh without saying racist or hateful shit maybe you're not funny" and it's like yeah

Worth noting: as despicable as this is, and as much as we should be screaming about it, @elfaroenglish.bsky.social's Carlos Dada has suggested another/an additional explanation: Trump is helping Nayib Bukele cover up for deals he made with MS-13 and other Salvadoran gangs.

NEW from @MiamiHerald: as the Trump admin continues to cite tattoos as evidence of gang membership, experts on the Tren de Aragua gang again confirm that it does NOT use tattoos as a means of identification. The idea seems to have been invented by Americans.

Judge CHUTKAN has granted an injunction against the EPA, barring its effort to claw back funds from Citibank delivered by the Biden administration to fund climate programs. She is giving the EPA until Thursday to seek an emergency stay from appeals court.

This is the second video of ICE agents shattering a window in the last week rather than have some patience. And in this case, they're allegedly detaining someone who already has asylum through his wife, with no reason given at all! www.borderreport.com/news/video-s...

NBC, AFP, NYT, Reuters and Getty should not attend.

We had the reporter on tonight; @maddow has the whistleblower

In case you're wondering, the Trump admin's official position at this point is HOW DARE YOU CALL HIM "MARYLAND MAN" and Fox News panels are out here mocking the idea that people are calling him a father. They want their base to stop thinking of him as a human being.

Ok I know we can’t judge by appearances but this guy looks like a Victorian child just asked if he has pilfered any of the sweetums from Mother’s secret cabinet

This. Has. Got. To. Stop.

Just updated this timeline to fix a typo and address an error in the last box where I'd gotten the manner of arrest wrong. I present the full version Mr. Abrego's time in the United States, using court documents to explain the allegations of gang membership and what actually happened in his case.

The White House & El Salvador's president have adopted a logically false argument: That a deported Maryland father is at a terrorist prison, therefore he is a terrorist -- who can't be returned. Now the DOJ is telling a judge DHS has no "authority" to bring him back. www.notus.org/immigration/...

This is their argument. In court. Not just a theory. From today at Law Dork: www.lawdork.com/p/trump-told...

DOGE is a criminal conspiracy to defraud the people of the United States

JUST IN: CIA confirms that when it scanned Director Ratcliffe's phone for Signalgate messages, they were gone. s3.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

immigration +4 is what happens when the entire Dem establishment goes “well republicans are completely right about immigration being an existential menace and we’re actually the tough ones” people start thinking “deport people to foreign prisons” is a good idea

Since the Trump admin continues to claim Mr. Abrego Garcia is a gang member, I thought I'd take the time to put together a timeline, based on all the documents filed in court, which lays out all the "evidence" the government has ever offered. As you'll find out, there's very little "there" there!

bloomberg: ~90% of deported migrants to el salvador had no criminal record

BOSTON (AP) — Trump administration freezes $2.2 billion in grants to Harvard after university defies its demands over campus protests.

Grabbed at his appointment to become a citizen. Is this who we are? 😕🇺🇸

I'm 100% in favor of everyone calling CECOT a concentration camp after today. The AP can do so since Trump didn't let them cover today's presser, in seeming defiance of Trevor McFadden.

NEW: DOJ finally files its response. They continue to refuse to provide any information about any steps they are taking to bring him back, suggesting they are not taking any. They again offer nobody with personal knowledge and simply cite Bukele's (utterly false) claim that he can't do anything.

Letter from Dem Senator Chris Van Hollen (MD) requesting a meeting with Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele To discuss MD father Kilmar Abrego Garcia's return "If Kilmar is not home by midweek – I plan to travel to El Salvador this week to check on his condition and discuss his release."

WOW. The Trump admin is attempting to strip a green card from a Buddhist Palestinian who's committed to nonviolence, just because he advocated on behalf of Palestinian human rights. Free speech is being trampled on by this administration.

If Democratic congressional leadership don’t lead an en masse halt to all legislative business after today, I don’t know why they’re worth supporting. What moment could more demand a response of intractable and tedious opposition? Shut it all down, and refuse to budge.

If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.

Holy shit. Video posted by President Bukele’s team on X shows the moments before his press conference with Trump in which Trump tells him: “We want to do homegrown criminals next. You gotta build about five more places.” (h/t @titonka.bsky.social @michelekelemen.bsky.social)

And everyone’s about to see how absolutely bs it was when the gun nuts said they were arming to defend from tyranny. Tyranny is here and they’re doing exactly nothing about it. This is going to take *real* bravery from *unarmed* people.

NEW: Systems at the Department of Health and Human Services are in danger of collapse, workers say, following the purging of IT and cyber staff. This could put public health data, including sensitive health records of hundreds of millions of Americans, at risk. read @davidgilbert.bsky.social:

WSJ reports that Pete Marocco is out at State. It politely. says that Marocco disagreed with Rubio. From court filings, it appears far more likely that Marocco bureaucratically overrode Rubio. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

Trump admin officials who have conceded that Kilmar Abrego Garcia was erroneously removed to El Salvador: 1. Solicitor General John Sauer, in a filing at SCOTUS 2. ICE official Robert Cerna, in a sworn declaration 3. DOJ lawyer Erez Reuveni, in court filings and at a hearing

...so I just checked the official SSA website and apparently their locate-your-nearest-office tool is currently offline?

Basically: I don’t think people understand that 36 hours from now it’s possible that America will have a formalized system for abducting enemies of the regime and stashing them in foreign gulags, indefinitely. www.thebulwark.com/p/bukele-abr...

Tomorrow’s going to be a good stress test of the press. El Salvadoran President Bukele will visit the White House. At the press availability, every Q ought to be about Abrego Garcia: where is he now? Did US ask you to return him? etc. WH will hate, maybe try to prevent, so all should band together.

WOW. They grabbed her off the street even while the State Department itself said that she had done nothing wrong.

NEWS: In today's declaration filed by the government in Kilmar Abrego Garcia's case, the govt still provides no information or past or current efforts to facilitate Abrego Garcia's return. Instead, an asst dir of ICE suggests that Abrego Garcia "is no longer eligible for withholding of removal."

🚨TARIFF UPDATE: Tariffs are non-negotiable, negotiable, but not a negotiating tactic. They are permanent until they are paused but they will never be paused, until they are paused which means they increase. Permanent exemptions already announced are temporary, but nothing has been announced. 🤡🎪

You honestly need to read this to believe it. WaPo reports on a Trump admin conspiracy to falsify records as part of a scheme to make life so intolerable that immigrants leave the country. Here's a gift link:
