As a professional novelist with a devoted following, at what point do you just yield and bask in the warm glow of self-satisfied hubris? Surely those voracious fans can't all be wrong.

If you don't think "they can't possibly pan this one more than THAT book", the critics aren't doing their job properly -- as they should, if only to give you peace of mind.
