non-issues are the favorite targets of this sort of conservative culture-war bullshit. get to pat yourself in the back and make it look like you won some victory, while not actually alienating any potential voters, or anyone with enough lawyers to take you to the supreme court over it
When I lived in Vermont I had a student who did a thesis on the state’s dairy industry in the early 20th c. One of their big issues was fighting margarine. They got a law passed that all “fake butter” had to be dyed blue. Back then populists had more imagination.
Wow. I think the problem with that law would be: children. Who wouldn't like blue food? (Apart from their parents, of course).
Ftr: I am a veggie, but not full vegan. I have been known to (rarely) use organic butter when cooking. I have zero clue how the hell I feel about eating lab grown meat tho!
I'm hoping this will end up being a streisand-effect situation.
I feel like the meat-lobby basically saying, "we don't think we will be able compete with lab-grown meat in the free market." is actually a pretty strong endorsement for it.
