People are treating the egg shortage as if it's merely a supply problem.

The reality is that it is a symptom of a spreading virus. That virus kills cats but hasn't infected a lot of humans yet.

The more it spreads, the more it reproduces, the more likely it becomes contagious and deadly to humans.
