When cycling in Newport a few weeks ago, I saw a teenage school girl step out on a pedestrian crossing when it was still red for her. If the van had been doing 30 mph, she would have been killed. It was still a miracle the driver managed to stop in time. 20mph limits is the way to go.

I believe this is why the antis fought so hard against it. Nothing to do with the perception of being inconvenienced a little, they were afraid it might be 'a good thing' and they hate 'woke' policies like this to be proven right.

And yet both the Welsh Tories and Reform have both declared their policy going into the next Senedd elections is to abolish all 20mph zones. Need to be challenged on why they want to kill and maim Welsh children. Welsh Labour also running scared of defending a successful policy.

The populist stance from the Welsh Tories and Reform won’t bear the weight they think it does. As more evidence shows 20mph saves lives and the UK catching up, it’ll become clearer that shouting 'war on motorists' is just more noise from the vocal minority. The public do see through it.

I do agree - some noisy ppl still shouting about 20mph needing to be rescinded (although fewer & fewer as time passes), but it was always the case that ppl wanted 20 'down their road' just not everywhere else 🤦‍♀️. Given the actual choice to scrap it, I don't think it'll be a vote winner.

I do hope you're right! Unfortunately we're up against some very powerful vested interests with the support of our media amplifying the idea that any even minor restrictions on driving is somehow an attack on basic human rights.

It feels like the loudest resistance comes from a generation who grew up during car dominance and still see driving as a default right. But times change. Younger people are priced out of car ownership and move differently. The 'right to drive' narrative may fade as reality shifts beneath it.
