When selfish expectations outweigh societal safety then disaster isn't a question of 'if' but 'when.' its alarming yet also not surprising that people will fight harder for their own minor conveniences than for the lives of others, but hey, at least they got to park closer to their front door.

Switching Western Avenue back to 30mph? It might not speed up your journey much as traffic volume is the real bottleneck...so time saved on that short stretch is minimal. 1/2 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Our first C=CC Newsletter of 2025 has just been published. This edition has articles on our Network Gaps campaign, cycling to school and work, our 'car blindness', a replacement for Next Bikes and much more. You can read it on our website, here: cardiffcyclecity.org/wp-content/u...

To improve bicycle parking in Cardiff city centre, the council needs to prioritise security, accessibility and efficiency. These are decisions that require leadership and clarity rather than pandering to the status quo 1/7

Cardiff Council are aiming improve the secure cycle parking on offer. They aim to install 50 to 100 secure cycle parking spaces in key locations during Summer 2025. Complete the survey. Tell your friends to do the same! www.cardiff.gov.uk/ENG/Your-Cou...

Cardiff Crossrail Phase 2.....A lot of benefit for relatively little capital investment swalesmetroprof.blog/2025/01/03/c...

To the driver who was absolutely outraged that a mere cyclist had the audacity to overtake him this morning...follow your dreams. You can reach your goals. I'm living proof. Beefcake. BEEFCAKE.

Today, in just 12 minutes, I experienced: 1 driver speeding to jump a red light. 1 driver speeding and playing chicken with my right of way 1 driver pulling a classic MGIF move only to slam on the brakes upon the shocking discovery that there was actually a car in front of me. Fail. 12 minutes.

Can I just shock you? Tour de Theft - a crack team of investigative journalists in Cardiff deploying GPS tagged decoy bikes tracking thieves with drones, exposing the whole sordid underbelly of bike crime. Sorry. Had a bit of a Alan Partridge BBC pitch dream last night. No disco scene though!

Had an interesting chat with a friend this weekend. They live in the suburbs and I live more inner city. They asked if my wife and I would eventually move out to a place like theirs. My answer? Probably not 1/6

My parry and touché to anyone who said the 20mph speed limit in Wales was a waste of money.

..or in my world, I seem to have a habit of consuming food sanccidentally on purpose!

Knowing that underpass well, if you think the incline looks a bit steep to cycle, just wait until you try the other exit. It includes a switchback halfway up presumably to make sure you never build up too much momentum on the climb. Almost like a scenic detour of the Route des Alpes in Gwaelod :)

Just think of the 706 fewer people killed or injured on urban/village 20mph/30mph roads in Wales in the year since setting a 20mph default as being equivalent to 23 classrooms of children, or 47 rugby teams and you realise the enormity of what Welsh drivers have achieved.

I like this analogy - Cities designed around public transport and active travel don't exclude drivers as they simply prioritise the needs of everyone, including those who don't or can't drive. While Cardiff has made some strides, I don't feel the city is moving quickly enough to strike this balance.

Interesting framing - those pesky parking spaces sitting there for decades minding their own business, suddenly accused of not keeping up with the times. Why havn't they autonomously expanded overnight to accommodate the parade of oversized SUVs! www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

@cardiffcouncil.bsky.social could learn from this approach by using informational films on platforms like Facebook. It could help combat negativity by educating people on why changes are being made showing how they’ll work and giving space for more informed opinions instead of uninformed reactions.
