Wish no place need to have these. Also, it's not a citizen job to feed the poors, it's supposed to be the state job. That is why I pay taxes for, in theory.
At one of the schools I worked at, they had a table and cooler set out for kids to put unopened food they didn't eat out for kids that were still hungry but couldn't afford extras. We threw the stuff away at the end of the day anyway so it was good to see food not go to waste.
They had a give some / get some cash wall at the school where I used to work. As a social experiment. Up to $250 was removed but what was left bought a pizza party and some furniture for the school: $1000. This from the $20 my former principal left on the wall to begin the experiment.
In Italy we have (had) 'cafe in sospeso' which was intended to work in every bar - you pay for 2 coffees and one was held 'in sospeso' for anyone without the means to pay. It didn't seem to get any traction (at least in my region), but it's a lovely idea.
You know, I'm retired and on a fixed income (I'm broke, the income is fixed). That said, if someplace near here offered such a deal I'd be buying a couple of tickets for the board every week.

Scottie’s Pizza on Division in SE Portland does this
(or at least they used to)
Love the idea though.
They just suck at taking care of their neighbours because they don't care.
*fart noise*
I had a member from Pet tell me "see what Gallant's done for the area" and I had to really bite my tongue. Whoof.
