There are more issues to genAI aside from copyright infringement. The amount of energy and water it uses is one of them as well as the exploitation of marginalized and poor countries/people to do the manual labour of labeling/flagging questionable content that was scraped

Your energy and water argument does not work for me because I can make that argument against any application that I don't like. It's something that can be regulated more heavily. The socioeconomic problems are of a concern to me though; my view was academic as I play with them with my own resources.

and it is also sad & infuriating that stock image services are diluted with gen AI images that most of the time are not even labeled/disclaimed correctly. Seen a few small creators get duped by mis-labeled AI images they bought from large stock marketplaces.

I bought stock images and composed my own images for my articles in the past but really AI Art makes this process so much smoother. It is not a complete replacement but it can do many things I could not realistically do in the past. People see it too black & white. It has pros and cons.

The amount of revulsion and need to avoid I have for any product that is clearly generative AI is intense, I will definitely avoid any product which is using it, its just that shiny perfection of it that is so unpleasant and generic.

Agreed! My Profile pic and my banner are both commissions that I have used for years. The Profile pic was a gift to me, and the banner was a gift to my players and they mean so much. Assets aren't hard to find, and I get a lot of pride as a creative supporting creatives.

As long as you let go of the hand drawn illustration style of 5e dnd and look into creative solutions via image filters and other effects you can get a consistent style from photos alone. You have to understand your limitations and use formats like A5 to get free scans of art to 300dpi for print.

I think the top right is my favourite image in any ttrpg and it's only made better having the confirmation that it's stock/public domain
