The version on the left is the same edition I'm reading - as you say, a UK first edition - from 1968, borrowed from the library. I love it that the library still has such venerable copies in circulation - it is older than I am!

wow. is it hard copy? Jacket protected? James Broom-Lynn seems to have been quite prolific but little to be found on him. Illustrators live without celebrity!

Realized that Alcorn's style reminded me of Milton Glaser's and sure enough they worked together at a very famous NYC institution Push Pin Studios-- also home of Edward Sorel and Seymour Chwast, who work you may recognize. I have the U.S. jacket. I think it's great. Psychedelic (published in 1968) and intriguing. Makes me think of all the inward looking characters: Pennistone, Stringham, Nick himself.
