Would like to see the #BBC diversify its funding streams to complement license fee income, particularly through services delivered overseas, on YouTube, and other platforms that leverage its entertainment and cultural programs. #culture #licensefee
How long before Lisa Nandy sorts out the Tory top management? I've completely stopped watching any BBC news/current affairs programmes. I'm not willing to submit to the Tory view on everything. My guess is that "Labour" is happy with the way things are or they would have started to make changes.
I believe the removal of the licence fee is long overdue. The BBC isn’t fit for purpose anymore with us, those who fun them all, having less and less say on how it’s run.
Abolish the fee. After all, it’s a TV tax in real terms. It’s nearly 2025 for goodness sake!
About time, why don’t they just index-link it, then would rise automatically, rather than the beeb having to go cap-in-hand to the government every year
It is about time that Britain accepted reality and funded the BBC through a broadband levy, which would be easier to collect, and which more accurately reflects how people now use the platform.
BBC iPlayer makes up around 18% of their total viewing so definitely not everyone :) Just make the Beeb a subscription service and let them fight it out with all the others. Let them survive on merit rather than “taxation”.
I was thinking more of the news content that crops up on here, Facebook, X and the like. It's a universal service we all benefit from because it has both reach and trust.
In which case I want an end to the barmy ‘balance’ when 3,000 experts agree on one thing, and a right wing nutter is given equal airtime to bump his gums and disagree basic facts. That is not journalism, it’s unfair debate and it’s harmful.
Totally agree with the false equivalence. Not sure I’d throw the baby out with the bath water. I still think it has a place. Still happy to pay the license for ad free content.
I’m a big fan of the BBC obviously, but I’d prefer they switched to a commercial model. It doesn’t really make much sense not to. They make good money from exporting shows, why not take on advertising revenue, especially for radio and podcasts. It’s unsustainable otherwise.
Furthermore, syndicating the content on platforms like YouTube would bring in additional revenue. I wonder how much the archive itself is worth!? It should all remain free to air but bring in advertising revenue. I would likely pay £5 a month for iPlayer if it went that way.

£15 if they're both.

It’s a tax
.. something fewer and fewer people want, just so we can watch live TV from.other broadcasters
I’m not bloody paying for that nonsense anymore.
