I have it, but my hand and mind coordination with mouse in right hand and directionals on the keyboard for my left hand makes it so I can’t easily shoot and dodge. It feels weird. That being said, I do love the art direction and style.
For reall, at some point realism just felt too "on trend" as if too many games were going for the same specific look and we were seeing less games with unique art style.
Wind Waker vs Twilight Princess is such a good comparison here. Same generation of hardware, completely different approaches to art design. One is still as timeless as the day it released, the other looks extremely dated and out of place (but not a bad game at all).
The original or HD remake? I remember being skeptical when I first saw it, but after a few minutes I fell in love with it. It’s so charming and pretty, Links facial expressions are hilarious at times too 😂
Its where I think stuff like ray tracing actually takes a bit of soul out of some games, impressive from a technical perspective but lacking in art style
Hell yeah. Somewhat related but I wanna be interested in kingdom come deliverance 2 so bad but the maximum realism is actually a detractor for me. Wish it had a pinch more style/fantasy

I think graphical improvement is a diminishing return. Give me a compelling vision, fascinating world, or something that is unexpectedly engaging instead.
One of the reasons I still love playing through Dishonored. The style befits the atmosphere of the game so much, the music finishing it off perfectly. Just a lovely franchise.

Oregon Trail, honestly, is one of the best games ever made because it is probably 40 years old and the gameplay loop still slaps. I haven't actually played it in 40 years. I'm not 40, but that's how things work these days. And it's still the goat. "here lies Andy, Peperony and Chease"
Oregon Trail was pivotal to my character development. It was a catalyst to my love of adventure and roleplaying games. I’m really into D&D and I can pinpoint a smart teacher sending my undiagnosed ADHD butt to the library to read and play on the computer when I finished early as the start of that.
there are some realistic games that aged well like half life 2 but the focus is on a strong art direction rather than relying on the engine go do all the work
That was such a weird move. It's like..."hey, we have this really talented team that can breath life into classics and has the ability to make something unique and special with the right support. I know...let's have them make a multiplayer game for GOW." Genius.
The first Borderlands game was almost drab and realistic before they changed to a more comic-y style. I doubt the series would have lasted this long without its over the top visuals.
