There is no future for major media unless it changes how it operates, which it will not do because it would first have to engage in introspection. And introspection is not going to happen because many journalists do not understand journalism, only career advancement. https://www.inquirer.com/opinion/commentary/trust-mainstream-media-2024-election-20241110.html

PAYWALL ❌
Really makes ya wonder how we're ever gonna break through the RW Media Defense Dome with these kind of own-goals...
ps... I agree with the assessment I can see. How information is disseminated has become a HUGE challenge!!
Wishful thinking is not good journalism.
The ratings game overtook true journalism long ago.
Now, what we get is bought and paid propaganda from bought and paid for opinionists, not journalists.
There is a big difference.
Moreover, every journalist should understand that reportage is just one of three dozen genres of journalism. Know your subgenre.
Third, never use a source you know to be a liar.
Fifth, if someone you bring on-air lies to your viewers and refuses to retract it, they're not invited on again. Ever.
Sixth, good journalism is undergirded by values—just be transparent about them.
Eighth, focus on stakes—not horse races.
Ninth, don't blame viewers if they're ill-informed. If they're ill informed it's because you failed.
Tenth, if you're led about by the nose by an owner or advertiser, you're not a news outlet.
I would like to see real data on the impact of paywalls on how informed we are now, as opposed to, say, the 1990s - newspapers as well as cable/TV.
Also, there were often free copies at the local dinner, and at the public library too.

Trying for the first time.
Decades ago:
Dems: 2+2=4
GOP: 2+2=4(-ish)
MSM: 2+2=4
Now:
Dems: 2+2=4
GOP: 2+2=12
MSM: 2+2= Experts disagree, with many saying 4 and some saying 12. The average answer is around 8. (P.s. Why that's bad for Democrats)
Is anyone ever better informed watching most of these clips?
It should also be clear whether someone is a journalist, a subject matter expert, or just giving their opinion.
When that happened "news" shows became profit centers and ratings became more important than the truth.
Think of the day when Trump
Isn’t in the news. Remember those days?
